Insurance
Marine Insurance
Marine insurance covers goods while they move, whether imported by sea or air, or transported around Australia by road and rail. It also extends to carriers liability and commercial hull risks.
Do I need Marine insurance?
If you import, export or move stock between locations, your goods are at risk in transit and often not covered by the carrier. Marine cargo cover fills that gap from door to door.
What does it cover?
- Import and export cargo by sea and air
- Goods in transit within Australia
- Storage in transit, depending on the policy
- Carriers liability for transport operators
- Commercial hull for work vessels
Important tips
- Carriers generally limit their liability to a fraction of your goods value. Do not rely on it.
- Understand your Incoterms. They decide when the goods become your risk to insure.
- Annual transit policies are usually better value than insuring shipment by shipment once volumes are regular.
